Football history
In 2003-04, we set up the Under-16 football team. Regular football training took place on Saturday mornings 11am to 1pm with an average attendance of 13-16 players. The team was entered in the Sports Network Council’s under-16 league for their further development and experience. It was very encouraging to see the commitment of the players in attending the training and the league matches.
The team struggled to match the other well-established teams in the league but managed to gain enough points and most importantly gain valuable experience. In 2004-05 the team carried on their regular football training and played in the 2nd Division of the Bangladesh Football Association (BFA) Summer League. Due to the valuable experience and teamwork gained from the SNC League the youth team was able to compete and match the other well established teams in the league. Many of the youth players were promoted to the senior team due to their excellent achievements.
Application for the Bangladesh Football Association (BFA) Summer League was made in December 2003 and application was accepted by BFA to play in the 2nd Division BFA Summer League 2004. SYA achievement in this league was outstanding by breaking all previous records of the league; SYA won the 2nd Division and were promoted to the 1st Division for 2005. In 2005 SYA again did very well and become champions of 1st Division and promotion to the Premier league. In 2006, unfortunately by 1 point SYA was regulated back to the 1st Division however the B team did very well in the 2nd Division and become runners up to get promotion to 1st Division so in 2007 we had both teams in the same division. In 2007 SYA again become runners up to get promotion back into the premier league.
We have two main teams that are established in the BFA Summer League, and one combined team the Inner London Amateur Football League. Both the teams have a regular attendance and membership of 25 players each.
The A team has been successful within the last 4 years and has won the summer league divisions two and one, the B team has also been successful im getting promotion to the 1st Division.
Majority of the members of the SYA B team are the youbg people who live in the Bethnal Green North and are benefiting from the football that SYA provides.
SYA has now a new under 14’s team which has a membership of 18 players who nearly all attend the youth club. This team was initiated because we felt the young people who attend SYA were not benefiting from just the youth club. Weve started off with training sessions for fitness and football every Saturday mornings at weavers fields on vallance road. The under 12 players from SYA train with Sporting Bengal on Saturday mornings as well at weavers. There are many skills and talents at this age and we feel we need to capture their energy in positive activities from theis age so they progress into doing good for themselves in the future.
