Youth club

The Youth Club facility is one of the SYA's main attractions. Currently the club is open on Saturdays and Sundays and three additional days during the school holidays. The opening hours are 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday and the same opening period during the half-terms.

Recently, another session was opened for young people between the ages of 8 to 12 years old on Sundays. This was due to the limited and restricted space.

During the summer SYA had held two barbecues with an attendance of around 40 young people, with guest speakers from other youth related professionals who provided advice on living a safe and healthy lifestyle. Moreover, there two awards ceremony for the football teams where parents and older participants from the community attended the ceremonies.

The average turnout of the youth in the club sessions was 14 – 18 young people, although we would have loved the number to be more it was however satisfactory.

• Carom board
• Playstation
• Board games

The above activities for a youth club session is very popular amongst young people, however due to the lack of space and equipment, most of the time you will find the young people waiting a long time for their turn which doesn’t go down well amongst young people.

There is a good mix of different youths within the local estates and across the other side, where some youths do not like going due to gang violence and territorial conflicts, however the club sessions have provided that comfort where when they enter they leave out the garbage of the streets and enjoy the social time whether they like some one or not. It has given majority of the young people the ability to recognise skills and talents of some one that they didn’t know and appreciate what they have to offer as a young person.
